Distributed by Perdue Premium Meat Co., this product was sold nationwide through Whole Foods Market without undergoing a recall because it's no longer on shelves. The USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued the alert after routine testing found contamination in a sample, raising concerns about food safety and quality control in the premium meat category. 💡 An Everyday Market Hack

Retailers often chase conversions, but long-term success comes from loyalty. Make reorders easier through saved preferences, send relevant restock reminders, and offer exclusive access to returning customers. A slight drop in first-purchase conversions may be offset by a higher customer lifetime value.

🧐 Shopper Insights

Consumer spending took a noticeable dip in May, with retail sales falling by 0.9%—worse than the 0.6% drop expected by economists. The slowdown was mainly driven by lower gas prices, declining vehicle sales, and growing economic concerns. This follows a modest 0.1% decline in April. When excluding categories like auto dealers, gas stations, and building supply stores, core retail sales—used to calculate GDP—actually rose 0.4%. But sector-specific numbers tell a mixed story: building materials and garden centers dropped 2.7%, gas stations fell 2%, and auto-related sales were down 3.5%. Restaurants and bars also saw a 0.9% dip.

Retail Innovation

ASOS has opened its first-ever U.S. physical store in New York’s SoHo. The pop-up offers exclusive collections and same-day delivery for local shoppers, blending physical retail with online speed. This move allows ASOS to test in-person engagement with its American audience, a major step for a brand that has traditionally been online-only.

Retailers are finding smarter ways to deal with overstock. Rather than relying on heavy discounts or storage costs, some are using AI-driven inventory platforms to turn excess into sustainable profits. Strategies include bundling slow movers with fast sellers, optimizing clearance across channels, and donating unsold goods for tax benefits and goodwill. These methods not only free up warehouse space but also align with consumer expectations for waste-conscious retailing.
